When we were kids, nobody wanted to be the goalkeeper. We always wanted to play on the other side of the field to score goals. But never like today this position was so important in a football game. And that’s why a top goalkeeper has a top salary, like a world classe striker.
In the Premier League, David de Gea is by far the best paid goalkeeper. The Spanish earns £375,000 per week in Manchester United. That means more or less £15 million per year.
The second best in the ranking is another Spanish goalkeeper: Kepa Arrizabalaga. Chelsea pays to Arrizabalaga £150,000 a week, or £6 million annually. Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) gets the third best salary amongst the goalkeepers in the Premier League, with a weekly wage of £130,000.
Jordan Pickford (Everton), Rui Patrício (Wolverhampton), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Dean Henderson (Manchester United) and Bernd Leno (Arsenal) receive a weekly paycheck of £100,000, or £4 million per year.
It is a surprise to see two of the best goalkeepers in the middle of the table: Alisson Becker (Liverpool) is in the 9th place of the ranking with a weekly salary of £90,000; his compatriot Ederson (Manchester City) earns £65,000 per week.
