Julen Lopetegui has been on scrutiny in recent weeks after being fired from the Spanish national team. The former FC Porto coach has signed a contract with Real Madrid and will earn twice his old salary in Spain.
Real Madrid will pay Lopetegui a salary of six million euros per year. A large increase in the payroll of the Spanish, who now has the responsibility of coaching the three-time European champions.
Orgulloso por todo, comienzo una etapa apasionante. ¡Gracias madridistas! ¡#HalaMadrid!

For Real Madrid, this means a reduction of the expenses with staff salary. Zinedine Zidane, the former coach of the Madrilenians, had an annual salary of 8.2 million euros, according to Forbes. A cut of approximately 2.2 million in salary expenses.
Lopetegui’s salary is also lower than that the ones of many coaches from other top clubs. Even the new coaches from Arsenal (Unai Emery) and PSG (Thomas Tuchel), have wages of around eight million euros.
He is also a long way from Pep Guardiola‘s salary at Manchester City (€ 22 million) and Portuguese José Mourinho at Manchester United (€ 18 million).
