Newcastle United have signed a new training kit sponsorship agreement with SumUp worth around £15 million over three seasons.
The deal with the payments fintech, which provides payment services to local businesses across north-east England, is the first in a series of commercial partnerships the Premier League club is expected to unveil.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle are also set to announce a new naming rights partner for STACK, the container village located next to St James’ Park.
Although the club has not officially disclosed the value of the SumUp agreement, it is understood to be worth £5 million per season, taking Newcastle’s annual revenue from training-ground-related commercial assets to around £11 million.
The Athletic notes that Newcastle had already struck a naming rights agreement with KNOX Hydration for the club’s training ground at Darsley Park. The facility was renamed “The KNOX” under a three-year deal worth £6 million per season.
In addition, the hydration drinks company committed a further £60 million for Newcastle’s front-of-shirt sponsorship through the end of the 2028-29 season.
By then, Newcastle expect to have moved into a new state-of-the-art training ground, a project valued at around £190 million.
Commenting on the partnership with SumUp, Newcastle’s Chief Revenue Officer Dave O’Connor said: “SumUp is the perfect partner for Newcastle United; an innovative, ambitious, global business with a genuine commitment to supporting local businesses who serve our fans and community everyday.”
“We’re excited to kick the partnership off and bring SumUp, its team and its local merchant community closer to the club and our supporters”, added.
