The sporting goods giant Adidas will inject €100 million into the Bundesliga as part of a new strategic agreement between the two entities.
The loan to the DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) will be made under attractive conditions that will allow the financing of the development of the two main football leagues in Germany — the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 — and their 36 times.
Also within the scope of this agreement, Adidas will supply the Official Match Ball for professional football matches until at least 2034, extending the previous contract signed for the seasons between 2026-2027 and 2029-2030.
This means that for eight years an official Adidas ball – a traditional German brand – will be used in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, as well as in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, the relegation playoffs between the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, and the newly created under-21 Bundesliga Talent Series competition.
The framework agreement was approved this week by the DFL Executive Committee after “very constructive negotiations” with Adidas, according to a statement, explaining that long-term investment objectives and the use of funds to strengthen the marketing center will be defined jointly with the 36 clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2.
“This partnership is significant for the Bundesliga. Adidas and the DFL are jointly contributing to a positive future for German professional football. The financing model offers an important option to invest in the growth of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in times of economic dynamism,” said league president Hans-Joachim Watzke, quoted in the statement.
Marc Lenz, CEO of the DFL, emphasized that Adidas and the Bundesliga are “two great German institutions” and that this investment is essential “to guarantee the vision and competitiveness of German professional football.”
