Cristiano Ronaldo has purchased a 25% stake in Spanish football club Unión Deportiva Almería, which competes in Spain’s second division.
The Portuguese star, who played nine seasons at Real Madrid, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer, invested in Almería through CR7 Sports Investments, a subsidiary of CR7 SA created to manage investments in the sports sector.
Almería, which was relegated in 2024 and acquired by the Saudi group SMC Group, did not disclose financial details of the deal.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has played for the Saudi club Al-Nassr since 2023, had previously made public his ambition to own a football club after hanging up his boots.
“UD Almería, in Spain, is a club with solid foundations and clear growth potential. I am very excited to collaborate with its leadership team to support the club’s next phase of development,” said the Portuguese international.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Al Khereiji, president of UD Almería, did not hide his satisfaction at having Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the club’s shareholders.
“He is considered the greatest player of all time, knows the Spanish leagues very well, and understands the potential of what we are building here, both in terms of the first team and the academy,” he said.
At 41 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo has investments across various sectors, ranging from artificial intelligence and technology to tourism and real estate, as well as health and wellness.
