These are mega sports infrastructures, modern structures with capacity for thousands of fans, and they cost many, many millions of dollars.

This is the list of the 10 Most Expensive Stadiums in the World, according to the StadiumDB website.

The most expensive stadium in the world is… SoFi Stadium, whose construction cost $4.24 billion. Located in Inglewood, Los Angeles, it houses two of the city’s teams: the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers, both from the NFL.

The second most expensive stadium in the world is in Montreal, Canada. It’s The Big O, the Olympic Stadium, and its construction costs skyrocketed significantly in the 1970s. If it were built today, it would cost $4.20 billion.

Returning to the USA, more specifically Las Vegas, we find the third most expensive stadium in the world. Built between 2017 and 2020, Allegian Stadium cost $2.48 billion, half the cost of the two most expensive. It is the home of the NFL team, the Las Vegas Raiders.

Only one European stadium on the list

In fourth place is the only stadium located in Europe. Wembley Stadium cost US$2.43 billion. It is the largest stadium on the list in terms of capacity (90,000 fans) and is home to the Premier League team Arsenal.

Next are three American stadiums: MetLife Stadium, Yankee Stadium, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, whose construction costs were $2.30 billion, $2.19 billion, and $2.05 billion, respectively.

The list closes with one more stadium in the USA: Levi’s Stadium, located in Santa Clara, California. The venue, inaugurated in 2014, cost US$1.68 billion and is home to the San Francisco 49ers.

In the middle are two stadiums located in Asia: the Singapore National Stadium, which cost $1.87 billion, and the Seoul Olympic Stadium, which cost $1.79 billion.
