The performance of Asamoah Gyan may have disappointed many fans during his time in Europe (Udinese, Rennes and Sunderland), but the Ghanaian star is currently the highest paid player in the Chinese Super League: 14.8 million euros per season, according to a research made by Finance Football.
Ezequiel Lavezzi is no longer living in the French capital. He’s been living in the Chinese city of Hebei since last February. Why? The Argentine star is the newest player of the Hebei China Fortune. But this change was well rewarded: Lavezzi has become one of the highest paid footballers in the world, receiving about 14 million euros per season.
Gyan and Lavezzi comes first and second in the Finance Football list, ahead of players as Ramires (13 million euros/year) or as Jackson Martínez (12.5 million / year), two footballers who could still lend quality to European football for a few years.
However, Ramires and Martínez had decided earlier than we might expect to collect “some” more money in Jiangsu Suning and Guangzhou Evergrande, respectively, before the retirement annoucement.
In total, the Top 20 highest paid football players in China receives annually 150 million. This in a country where a recent graduate receives an average monthly salary between 400 and 600 euros (OECD Economic Surveys: China 2015).
That said, what can we expect from China? With some of the best players in the world, the Chinese football will finally ready to take off? Or are we on the verge of a bubble in the football market?
