Glazer Family Considers Selling Manchester United Stake

Some members of the Glazer family are considering selling a stake in Manchester United, more than two decades after buying the historic English club.

The news comes from Bloomberg News, which cites sources close to the matter.

Several shareholders of the billionaire American family have been studying the possibility of selling part or all of their stakes in the Manchester club, according to the report.

The discussions within the family initially focused on the sale of stakes by some members, who are now trying to convince others to join them.

The Glazer family’s investment in Manchester United began in 2003, when patriarch Malcolm acquired 2.9% of the English team’s shares. Later, the family ended up buying 90% of the club.

Two years ago, the family sold a 29% stake to Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the INEOS Group, which took control of the club’s operations.

The Glazer family still holds the majority of the shares, but they have long faced criticism from fans, particularly regarding uncontrolled debt and delaying infrastructure investments.

Neither the Glazer family nor Manchester United responded to a Reuters request for comment.

To revive the club, Ratcliffe cut jobs and increased ticket prices, among other measures.

Last season, Manchester United finished third in the Premier League, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in two seasons.

Manchester United shares jumped 11% to $23.45, valuing the Old Trafford club at over $4 billion.
