Parken Sport & Entertainment is exploring the possibility of selling a partial or full stake in FC Copenhagen, in a move aimed at strengthening investment in the Danish club and supporting its continued development.
The process could also include Parken Stadium, along with its office towers, although the sale of the stadium is not a prerequisite for the sale of the football club.
FC Copenhagen accounted for almost 40% of the Danish group’s revenue last year, making any potential divestment a significant strategic shift for Parken Sport & Entertainment, which also operates in the resort and commercial real estate sectors.
Shares in the group rose by almost 15% following the announcement on Tuesday.
The portfolio review also covers FC Copenhagen’s women’s football team.
“The board of directors of Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S has determined that it is appropriate at this time to explore whether there are any strategic opportunities, outside of the group’s current ownership, which can contribute to strengthening the continued development of F.C. København as Scandinavia’s leading football club including through continued investment in sporting performance, fan experience and football infrastructure,” the group said.
“In the coming period, the strategic alternatives, including a divestment in whole or in part of F.C. København and Parken Ejendomme A/S, will be discussed with a number of carefully selected potential investors,” it added.
The process is being led by Tifosy Capital & Advisory, which has been appointed as exclusive financial adviser for the potential sale of the club and stadium.
Parken stressed, however, that the partial or full sale of FC Copenhagen and the stadium may ultimately not go ahead.
