U.S. investment fund Clara Vista acquires Italian club Frosinone for €41.5 million

U.S.-based investment fund Clara Vista has acquired a controlling stake in Italian football club Frosinone in a deal valued at €41.5 million, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Headquartered in New York, Clara Vista purchased an 80% stake from Maurizio Stirpe, who has led the club since 2003 and recently guided Frosinone back to Italy’s top flight.

The American investment group already owns newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town and has now added the Italian club to its growing portfolio of European football investments.

Maurizio Stirpe will remain at the helm of Frosinone for the next two years while retaining a 20% ownership stake.

Speaking at a press conference, Stirpe stressed that his role would not be that of a caretaker president.

“At the end of the second year, we will meet again and, based on the value we have created, our effectiveness and our ability to work together, we will define our plans for the years ahead. This will not be a transitional presidency, but an operational one,” he said.

As part of the transaction, Clara Vista will also acquire a 51% stake in the company that owns the club’s infrastructure, including the Stadio Benito Stirpe, which has a capacity of more than 16,000 spectators.

The €41.5 million investment is intended to strengthen the first-team squad, modernise the club’s infrastructure, invest in youth development and usher in a new era for Frosinone built on data-driven decision-making, strategic planning and professional management.

Clara Vista is also planning to expand its football investment strategy into Spain.

“The fund is backed by American investors with significant financial resources, including interests in NFL franchises. According to Forbes, it manages assets worth approximately $250 million. It combines financial strength with operational expertise in media and technology. In September 2025, it completed the acquisition of Ipswich Town and now operates in the United States, England and Italy, with plans to expand into Spain,” Stirpe said.
