Italian Serie A was considered the best league in the world in 2020 by International Federation of Football for History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Last time Italian top league won this award was 14 years ago.
Between 1991 and 2006, Italy dominated the world’s leagues (10 awards) before English Premier League and Spanish La Liga took the hand over the IFFHS ranking.
With three clubs in the world’s Top 7 Best Clubs in the World 2020, the Italian Serie A takes the first place to English Premier League, second last year. Brazilian Serie A is again the best in South America and keeps also his third place in the world since four consecutive years.
Spanish LaLiga, considered the best football league between 2010 and 2018, lost again a place to finish at the 4th rank, just before the German Bundesliga, winning five places (number 10 in 2019).

Portugal’s Primeira Liga (place 6 in 2019) keeps his position like the French Ligue 1, 7th since 2018.
Paraguayan Primera División makes a superb jump to place 8 in 2020. Argentinian Primera Division and Ecuadorian Serie A complete the top-10, with Ecuador entering in the top-10 for the first time.
With 13 leagues, European leagues keep its dominance in football, while South America is represented with 5 leagues. There are 1 league from Africa in the top-20 (Egypt) and another from Asia (South Korea).
